Driving Safety
Course (DSC)
Choosing this option will allow you 90 days to complete the course and
request a certified copy of your driving record from the Department of Public
Safety in Austin. If a ticket is dismissed under this provision, it will not
appear as a conviction on the driving record and according to state law, should
not affect insurance premiums. More information on Driving
Safety Course.
Deferred
Disposition (Probation)
This option is another method for you to have your violation dismissed to
prevent the offense from appearing on your driving or criminal record.
Deferred Disposition is offered on a case by case basis, and depends solely upon
your driving record and the violation. The Judge will review your request for
Deferred Disposition and you will be notified of your next steps. The
deferral period is from a minimum of 90 days to a maximum of 180 days. You are
required to pay the state court costs upfront and a
special expense fee due at the end of your probation. You also may be required to
take a driving safety course as a condition of your deferred disposition.
Deferred disposition is similar to DSC in that it is only granted once a year to
have a violation dismissed.
If you hold a Commercial Drivers License, you are not eligible for deferred
disposition.
State law prohibits the deferred disposition option if a violation occurs in
a construction zone when workers were present.
